English Abstract

This work was carried out to reveal the effects of different protein levels in diet on serum concentration, pharmacokinetic parameters and tissue residues of pefloxacin.

The bioavailability following intramuscular and oral administration of pefloxacin was determined.

After i.v injection of pefloxacin at a dose of 10 mg/kg b.wt., the drug showed a high serum level (3.79 µg/ml and 3.92 µg/ml) 5 min.

post-injection, for low protein and high protein groups respectively, then the concentration was decreased gradually till reached its minimum level(0.33 and 0.24 µg/ml)for LP and HP groups respectively, at 24 h post-injection.

The present data revealed that the serum concentration time curves of pefloxacin were best described by a two compartment open model following a single intravenous injection of 10 mg/kg b.wt.

Following i.m.

Injection of a single dose of 10 mg/kg b.wt.Pefloxacin , the drug was detected in serum 5 min.

post-injection.

It continued to increase gradually reached its maximum level of 1.89 & 1.77 µg/ml at 1.38 & 1.04 h for LP & HP groups respectively.

The systemic bioavailability of pefloxacin following its i.m.

Injection in a dose of 10 mg/kg b.wt.

was 69.77% for LP group and 78.18% for HP group.

Following oral administration of pefloxacin at a single dose of 10 mg/kg b.wt,the drug was detected in serum 10 min.post-administration and it continued to increase gradually reached its maximum level at 3.10 & 2.03 h, for LP & HP groups respectively. The systemic bioavailability of pefloxacin following its oral administration.

were 62.15% & 58.61% for LP & HP groups respectively.
