Synthesis and spectra of some new acridine derivatives and bis [3,3,6,6- tetramethyl-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10-deca-hydro-1,8-acridinedion-9-yl]benzene derivatives

The reaction of 5, 5-dimethyl-1, 3-cyclohexanedione with a number of aldehydes afforded the corresponding bis (3-hydroxy-5, 5-dimethyl-1-oxo-2-cyclohexene) methane derivatives 1-6.

Cyclization of the isolated compounds 1-6 was achieved with ammonium acetate in the presence of acetic acid to afford the corresponding 9-substituted acridine-1, 8-dione derivatives 7-12.

On the other hand, the aldehydes, isophthalaldehyde and terephthalaldehyde were reacted with 1, 3-cyclohexanedione derivatives separately to afford 1,3- and 1, 4-bis benzene 13 and 14 respectively.

On boiling the isolated compounds 13 or 14 with ammonium acetate and acetic acid afforded the corresponding new bis alcidine derivatives 15 and 16 respectively.
