English Abstract
Seventy one S.
aureus isolates were included in this study, of which Fifty five (77.5%) were MRSA.
67.3% of MRSA were hospital associated (HA-MRSA) while CA-MRSA were represented 32.7%.
Among MRSA, forty five isolates were resistant to erythromycin.
The presence of inducible clindamycin resistance was confirmed by the D-test for forty three (95.5%) erythromycin resistant MRSA.
Thirty three (76.7%) discordant exhibited the iMLSB phenotype, two (4.7%) the MSB and eight (18.6%) the cMLSB phenotypes.
Induction of clindamycin resistance was 1.6 times greater in CA-MRSA than in HA-MRSA (p = 0.014).
Significant prevalence was found for ermA and ermC among HA-MRSA and CAMRSA, respectively.
This is the first study in which the prevalence rate of iMLSB phenotypes in Jordan with genotypic surveillance was estimated with reinforcement on the role of erm genes in incidence of MLSB phenotypes.
Therefore, a continuous surveillance of MLSB resistance in MRSA (both community and hospitals) is of great importance before prescription of clindamycin MRSA treatment.
