English Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the efficiency and proficiency of electronic sites when translating Arabic Culture Specific Phrases(hence CSPs) in the Holy Qur'an.
To achieve the goal of this study, a sample of the study which contains examples of CSPs is extracted from different Suras of the Qurʾān.
Then, this sample is analyzed, discussed and compared with the translation found in the version of King Fahad Complex Site for being the optimal one.
Techniques used by these sites are investigated following Chesterman's (1997) classification.
The errors are analyzed according to the translation theory ,in general, and the textbased Translation and oriented-text analysis, in particular.
Interviews are conducted with experts in the field of translation, Arabic and Qurʾānic studies in order to evaluate the efficiency and the proficiency of these sites in translating CSPs in the Holy Qurʾān.
The findings of this research show that the selected translations of the Holy Qurʾān have failed to measure the depth of the Qurʾānic message in terms of its originality and the connotative shades of meanings of the culture specific phrases.
The technique used by these sites is mainly the literal translation which shows that these sites do not make use of Arabic resources in order to understand the delicate meanings of words.
These sites also do not investigate the intended meaning of these Ayas in trusted Qur'anic essential resources as emphasized in the commentaries ( Tafsir, Fiqh and Nahw) to interpret the Qur'anic text accurately.
The researcher recommends that the translation of the Holy Qur'an, following King Fahad Complex translation, should be officially institutionalized and governmentally authorized.
This institution should include a committee of professional Arab and non-Arab Muslim bilingual scholars who have deep knowledge of the Qur'an translation to address other non-Arabic speaking Muslims and non-Muslims audience.
