Abstract EN

Translation of one people’s literature to the language of another people is of utmost importance and life necessity to learn about what is going on the other side of the fence.

These translations have a strong momentum in the context of conflict between nations on the basis of “Know thy enemy”.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has led each party to show interest in the intellectual property of the other and in literary translation in particular.

This is commonly called mutual translations.

The translation of Palestinian literature into the Hebrew has big importance, way from the statement “Know thy enemy”.

These translations were meant to introduce the Hebrew reader to what the Palestinian feels, thinks and dreams of, through Palestinian eyes, thus making the Israeli readers discover themselves and the other.

Discovering one’s self leads in many times to reawaken one’s conscience.

Then this individual awareness would become a collective awareness.

This paper has shown clearly, and from the voices of Israelis, the extent of the effect of translated Palestinian literary text on the Israeli reader and here lies the potential of literature and writer.

The latter is armed with his/ her voice, pen and papers, rather than with the gun.

However, we have to remember that literature alone cannot change the world.
