Abstract EN

This study examined the effectiveness of Computer - Based Instruction (CBI) in alleviating mathematics learning phobia in Budaka Universal College, Budaka District, Eastern Uganda.

It used one group pre-test post-tests on 250 students.

Mathematics Attitude Inventory Scale (MAIS) measured students’ levels of phobia.

MLSAS determined students’ dominant learning style.

Mathematics Competence Based Test (MCBT) was used based on study objectives.

Data was collected using questionnaires.

Hypotheses were tested using one sample t-test.

Findings showed that low mathematics achievement is a symptom of a mathematics phobia, 62% of the students felt mathematics phobia levels, hypotheses indicated that CBI has a significant effect on achieving objectives of learning mathematics, CBI is effective in helping students overcome mathematics learning phobia.

The study recommended use of innovative pedagogy, use of CBI for students with special needs and learning disabilities
