Abstract EN
Prohibitive mood has been under the focus of the grammarians and scholars.
Juristically speaking, it may indicate further meanings other than invalidity and unlawfulness like (recommending, advising.....etc).
The study tackles the meanings of prohibitive mood in the Glorious Quran with reference to translation.
It aims at investigating how translators deal with these meanings in their renderings.
This study is conducted relying on accredited Qurānic interpretations.
It also tries to clarify and disambiguate Qurānic verses, as far as prohibitive mood is concerned.
It hypothesizes that unless a mindful attention to the meanings of this mood and its affiliated nuances is given, erroneous translation will result.
Analyzing different translations of the Glorious Qur'an, the researcher found that taking these meanings into consideration plays a significant role in achieving a better understanding on the part of the TL readers.
Thus, revising translations of Qurānic verses containing prohibitive mood is recommended.
