Abstract EN

This paper reports an experimental study carried out to investigate the influence of synergic effects of metakaolin (MK) and Class C fly ash (FA) and ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) with different percent , on the mechanical and physical properties of the ternary blended such as setting times, strength, water absorption and porosity percent.

The efficiency for immobilization cesium (Cs-137) was evaluated by the leaching test ANSI/ANS 16.1-2003.

The results indicated that fly ash and ground granulated blast-furnace slag replacement generally increased cement setting time, while effect of metakaolin replacement decreased cement setting time.

The results showed that the metakaolin, fly ash and ground granulated blast-furnace slag provides a positive effect on mechanical and physical properties depending on amount of replacement.

Besides, the sample incorporating the ternary blend of cement with 10% metakaolin, 25% fly ash and 35 % and ground granulated blast-furnace slag (CFGM2) , showed higher compressive strength and decreasing of the leachability of cesium (Cs-137) than that of the normal cement or cement mixed with metakaolin or fly ash or ground granulated blast-furnace slag respectively.

This blend proved to be the optimum combination for achieving maximum synergic effect
