A total of 120 rectal swabs were collected randomly from sporadic cases of adult cattle in Kafrelsheikh Governorate .Rectal swabs should be plated onto a selective differential media such as Sorbitol MacConkey agar (SMAC) for 24 hours to isolate O157 STEC .After O157 STEC colonies have been isolated ,been found to agglutinate with O157 latex reagent and been biochemically confirmed as E.
coli.3 out of 24 isolates of E.
coli (12.5%) were positive for Shigatoxin gene by using polymerase chain reaction(PCR).
