Abstract EN

The study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of a proposed programme to address the weaknesses of grades four and five students in reading in order to improve their reading skills.

A number of study tools were prepared to achieve the aim of the study and to discover the effectiveness of the proposed programme.

These tools were a list of the most important reading skills needed for grades four and five students and a test that accurately measures students' competence in the targeted skill.

The research tools were applied on the study sample in the second semester of the academic year 2014-2015.

The results of the study showed that there is a noticeable improvement in the students' reading skill by a statistical indicator in the posttest compared to the pretest.

This proves the effectiveness of the proposed programme.

In light of the achieved results, the study came up with a number of recommendations and proposals for other research that can be carried out in this area.
