English Abstract

Cost is considered as one of the most important factors of success of construction projects.

The cost of any project may be within, under or overrun.

Accordingly, many of these projects have problems due to cost overrun which lead finally to increasing of project cost more than estimated budget.

However, in Palestine, this subject is considered as a sensitive matter due to difficult political conditions.

The aim of this paper is to identify and evaluate the main factors which contribute to cost overruns in construction projects in Gaza strip.

A questionnaire survey was conducted and 36 factors were identified, categorized into groups, evaluated and ranked from constructors and consultants perspectives.

The results indicates that contractors and consultants agreed that improper planning, , poor site management and sharp increase in materials cost are most important factors that contributes to cost overruns.
