English Abstract

The aim of this research is to explore the local practices of Gaza strip contractors in cost estimating of construction projects.

A survey questionnaire supported by personal interviews was used for this purpose.

Fifty one questionnaires were distributed to contractors of first, second, and third classes.

Forty questionnaires were received and analyzed.

Most of contracting companies are relatively newly established ones dealing with small projects in terms of size and value.

However, as contracting business in Gaza strip is very competitive, contractors used to care much about details in the estimating process.

Contractors show special concern to estimating the material cost as it is the main component of a project cost.

Most uncertainties associated with construction projects come from the implications of Israeli security policies of closure and segmentation.

Gaza strip contractors show good potential to computerize the estimating process provided to have simple and flexible applications supported by suitable training and consultants.
