Abstract EN
This study aimed to highlight the importance of discourse analysis as a translation strategy, whieh consists in indicating the implicit units ofthe source text during the transfer.
We have taken as a model the verb “ (قال) with its two significances: « to say » and « to aet» that we have enumerated as per the Arabic and French dictionary, by the light of John Austin theory on the “Speeeh aet”.
As far as the corpus is concerned, we have taken some text from the Holy Qu^an where the verb“ Qala” is recurrent, sometimes with a constative connotation, some others with a performative one.
In this last case, the translator has to make the meaning explicit in the target language.
We have compared two dissimilar French translations ofthe Holy Text, one is a literal translation of Mohammed Hamidullah and the other is a free translation of Regis Blaehe.
The study confirmed the importance of bringing out the real meaning ofthe performative verbs in the translation trough a discourse analysis and by using the technique of translation called “the explanation”.
