Abstract EN

Performance appraisal system has been viewed by academics and human resource practitioners as effective tool for evaluating employees in organizations.

The research assesses the effect of socio-cultural factors on performance appraisal of selected public institutions in Offinso municipality.

A social survey was conducted among employees of seven public institutions in the Offinso municipality.

The institutions were sampled based on convenience while the employees were sampled using the probability and non-probability sampling techniques.

The data obtained were analyzed quantitatively using both descriptive and inferential statistical tools with the aid of Statistical Package for Service Solutions (SPSS).

The findings of the study revealed that socio-cultural factors have the tendency to change appraisal results, affect appraisal waivers and even determine appointment into job vacancies.

The findings again indicated that these factors make it uneasy for many managers and heads of public organizations in Ghana to freely and objectively implement human resource policies and procedures.

Some recommendations were made.
