English Abstract

The present study aims at evaluating discussion questions of preparatory schools in reading comprehension textbook based on critical thinking skills.

Descriptive and content analysis menthols have been used.

The sample of the present study includes discussion questions of reading comprehension discussion questions of reading comprehension textbook for preparatory school, which include ( 183 ) questions for 4th class, ( 158 ) questions for 5th class, and (191 ) questions for 6th class An evaluation questionnaire which is based on critical thinking skill is constructed which include (25) skills and distributed into five domains the first domain is the (assumption recognition) which Includes (9) skills.

The Second domain is (argument evaluation ) which involves (5) skills.

The third domain is the (analysis) which involves (4) skills, and the conclusion domain which includes (3) skills Face validity has been ensured by exposing the instrument to group of experts in the field of ELT.

As a result, the experts agreed on the validity of the instrument with 85% of agreement.

As far as reliability is concerned, (cooper equation ) has been used to ensure the reliability coefficient.

The reliability coefficient for 4th class is ( 86%) , for 5th class is (91%) where as the 6th class is ( 86,64) .Five-point scale, Frequencies weighted percentile formulas have been used.

Results show that discussion questions for fourth Preparatory class is as follows: Recognition skills are very good, Argument skills are weak where as Aralysis skills are weak, Elicitation skills are weak and conclusion skills are average .

regarding fifth preparatory class, Recognition skills are (excellent), Argument and evaluation skills are (weak) whereas (analysis) skills are weak, Elicitation and conclusion skills are weak.

For sixth class, Recognition skills are (very good).

In addition, the (Arguments, Evaluation , skills are weak) whereas Analysis and Elicitation skills are weak.

The researcher has concluded the following: Questions related to arguments, analysis, conclusions, and elicitations are rarely used in ceding comprehension textbook.
