Abstract EN

This paper represents a review of literature on reflective teaching.

It puts special emphasis on the notion of reflection as a stimulus for the language teacher professional growth and survival.

It provides definitions of reflective teaching from different investigators in the area of teacher education, followed by detailed illustration of the evolution of this movement and the major conceptions that explain ways through which the idea of reflective teaching has been put into practice.

Part of this review is reserved to the benefits of the reflective approach on the language teacher, especially in what concerns his professional development.

As an attempt to motivate teachers become reflective in teaching the foreign language, a reminder about the invaluable role of reflection in shaping teachers professional career is chosen to conclude this theoretical review.
