Abstract EN

The current research aims at shedding light on the need for special diets for athletes, vegetarians and the elderly.

A questionnaire form was distributed to a random sample of guests in four and five star hotels in Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh.

Another questionnaire was distributed to the managers of the food and beverages departments.

The study revealed that the meals provided in hotel do not suit the needs of most of the guests, beside the lack of the response to their special diets and the absence of scientific planning of these meals .

On the other hand most of the food and beverages managers believed that they meet most of nutritional requirements of these categories .

They also added that they adopt scientific planning of menus.

The study recommends food and beverages managers to maintain the health status of those needing special diets, especially athletes, vegetarians and the elderly.
