A gcotechnical expertise has been carried out in order to determine the causes of di- sorders (i.e.
settlement and tilting) of walls and slabs observed in the western side of an industrial building extension at Saint-C£- saire (Quebec), performed on 2005 for the purpose of adding a production machine.
This paper includes the observations es- tablished during the different site visits made for the assessment of the status of the building expansion (notably in the western side), the description of the soils’ exploration works carried out on the field and in the lab as well as the results ob- tained.
the conditions of the groundwater beneath the building expansion, the results of the calculations of totals and differen- tial settlements, assessment of the different assumptions made to pronouncc on the main causes of disorders observed in the building, as well as our comments and geo- technical recommendations concerning the rehabilitation works proposed.

Une expertise g6otechnique a etc niali- s6e en vue de determiner les causes des desordres (tassements et dcnivellations) des murs et dalles observes dans la panic ouest de 1’agrandissemcnt d’un batiment industriel a Saint-Cesaire (Quebec) rcali- see en 2005 pour ajout d’une machine dc production.
Cet article comprcnd les observations cta- blies lore des visites dc licux effectuees pour prendre connaissance dc l’ctat de l’agrandissemcnt du batiment (notamment du cote oucst), la description des travaux dc reconnaissancc des sols effectues sur le terrain et en laboratoire ainsi que les rcsultats obtcnus, les conditions de l’cau soutcrrainc dans l'emprise dc Pagrandisse- ment du batiment, les resultats des calculs de tassements totaux et ditYSrentiels, veri- fications des hypotheses ctablies pour se prononcer sur les causes principals des desordres survenus dans lc batiment, ainsi que nos commentaires et recommandations geotechniques pour les travaux de refec- tion proposes.
