Abstract EN
The current study aimed to reveal the reality of the inclusion of topics and concepts of occupational safety and health in the content of natural sciences’ books in the secondary education in Saudi Arabia.
To achieve this, the researcher used a descriptive approach based on content analysis.
A content analysis card was prepared which consisted a list of occupational safety and health topics and concepts that should be included in the natural sciences’ books of the secondary education.
It consisted of (6) main fields and (52) sub-fields related to occupational health and safety topics and concepts.
The study sample consisted of (12) natural sciences’ books of the secondary education (physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science) including the manual of practical experiments for each book.
The study found that there is a general decline in inclusion of topics and concepts of occupational safety and health in the natural sciences’ books: (23.2 %), (24.7 %), (28.4 %), (23.7 %) for the four physics books, respectively;( 33.9 %), (27.5 %), (38.6 %) for the three biology books, respectively; (21 %), (25.7 %), (26.9 %), (26.4 %) for the four chemistry books, respectively; and (42.30 %)for the book of earth science.
The inclusion in these books was limited to what is related to the students' performance of activities and practical experiments in the school laboratory.
There are also (15) topics and concepts out of (52), (28.8 %)have not been included in any of the secondary natural sciences' books.
The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) in inclusion of occupational safety and health topics and concepts in natural sciences’ books of the secondary education due to the variables of the book specialization and the level at which the book is studied.
