Translation is based on discourse analysis when looking for original meaning(s).

This operation requires a strategy of interpretation which deals with semiotic analysis whose supporters are divided into two groups : The European structural trend and the American Pragmatic trend.

The structural analysis lies in the duality of the sign that is to say, form and content .

But it has been proved that, this kind of analysis limits interpretation, due to the preexistence of the meaning within the text beforehand, whereas the American triadic analysis focuses on meaning , its production, its varieties as well as its effect on the receiver, which constitues a common research field with translation.
