The present study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a training program in the improvement of the level of knowledge and attitudes toward behavioral and emotional disorders among elementary stage teachers.
All teachers in the two Riyadh schools where the behavioral and emotional program was applied participated in the “Hyperactivity and attention deficit” program in the academic year H.
1435/1436.
The quasi-experimental approach was used which required the division between two groups (control and experimental) where the participants were divided into two groups experimental and control group to investigate the effect of the independent variable represented in the training program (undergoing training versus not undergoing training) on the dependent variables (female teachers’ attitudes towards female students’ with behavioral and emotional disorders and teachers’ knowledge of emotional and behavioral disorders.The study results revealed that the training program had a role in improving knowledge an attitudes of elementary female teachers toward female pupils with behavioral and emotional disorders.
The study recommended the reconsideration of the public education pre-service training programs to help the investigation of behavioral and emotional disorders and the methods of handling pupils with behavioral and emotional disorders.
The study also recommended the necessity of the interaction between colleges of education represented in special education departments and in-service teacher training units to provide those in charge of these units with training programs connected with the recent methods of handling behavioral and emotional disorders.
