Abstract EN

As part of its efforts in combating money laundering and financing of terrorism, Algeria has endeavored to activate the role of the Financial Intelligence Processing Unit by providing appropriate legislative frameworks and enhancing its technical and human resources.

At the same time, the Unit’s function was influenced by the development of criminal methods benefiting from the technological advance of the financial sector; as well as by the lack of the declarations of suspicion due to bank secrecy .

This study aims to uncover some of the difficulties that prevent the Unit from performing its primary role in detecting criminal activities that aim to conceal and disguise its sources of illicit funds
