English Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia occurs when the pancreas cells produce insufficient amounts of insulin hormone.

Objective: To assess of the clinical and dietary status of chronic T2DM patients in Gaza Governorate.

Subjects and Methods: study design was a cross-sectional which was employed among 100 patients (50 males & 50 females) with new diagnostic T2DM from primary health centers Gaza Governorate.

Biochemical parameters and HbA1c were examined.

Patients were asked to fill out a questionnaire to identify factors associated with poor glycemic control by conducted using SPSS software version 23.

Results: The prevalence of poor controls was 64% among Type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients.

Poor controls were significantly associated with education levels, smoking, physical activity, and income, economic levels, increase BMI, Family history of T2DM, bean and candy intake.

The level of glucose, HbA1c, kidney and liver function, total cholesterol (TC), Low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglyceride (TG) among patient with poor controls was higher statistically significant than good controls.

In contrast, there was a significant drop in High density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level in T2DM.

HbA1C was having the positive significant correlation with glucose, TG and AST and negative significant with uric acid (P<0.05).

Conclusions: Poor control of HbA1c was observed among T2DM patient associated with education, smoking, physical activity, economic levels, increase BMI, bean, and candy.
