Abstract EN

This research aims to reveal the role of the modern Arabs in the field of the school dictionaries construction, and to demonstrate the extent to which these works respond to the criteria of the modern lexicography , by presenting a critical descriptive approach in analyzing the model of the short Illustrated School Dictionary, "Motiquin (Arabic- French) which is regarded as one of the most widely used school dictionaries in learning Arabic and French; due to its rich vocabulary, supported by a variety of drawings and paintings.

Hence, this school dictionary will be analyzed by identifying the elements of its introduction, clarifying its cognitive objectives, determining the methods of its lexicon development, revealing its sources collection, pointing out its construction mechanisms; whether according to the lexical order of entries, the definition types, the reference methods, and the various annexes to which it is appended
