The study aimed to identify the requirements of establishing professional learning communities in public education schools and their role in improving the academic performance.
The study used the analytical descriptive method, using a questionnaire consisting of 47 phrase collected from a sample of 789 teachers in the primary, middle and secondary levels in the governorates of Dammam , Khobar and Dhahran, The most Important Results: -The participants of the study agreed on the need to provide the requirements for building professional learning communities in public education schools.
-The participants agreed on the role of professional learning communities in improving academic performance.
-There are statistical significant differences between female and male teachers' responses to the requirements of building professional learning communities and the role of education communities in improving academic performance for teachers.
-There are statistically significant differences in responses of the study sample according to their educational stage in the requirements of building professional learning communities for teachers in the primary and secondary stages, while there are no statistically significant differences between the responses of the study groups in the role of professional learning communities in improving academic performance.
-There are no statistical significant differences between the responses of the study groups according to years of experience in the requirements of building the professional learning communities, while there are statistically significant differences between the role of professional learning communities in improving academic performance favoring teachers of less than 5 years experience.
The study concluded in providing a suggestion to improve the professional learning communities in public education schools in Saudi Arabia directed to enhance academic performance and solve the challenges that face schools.
