The preset paper sheds light on one of the most grueling phenomena in translation studies that is the problem of ambiguity.

In fact, it is such an interesting topic as far as it constitutes the main obstacle that hampers the process of translation.

The study relies on the large and constructive framework suggested by Peter Newmark, one of the forerunners of translation studies.

Besides, the practical part handles the poems of the Algerian leader and poet El Emir Abdelkader.

Although the works of the founder of the Algerian state are of paramount importance to translate as they represent a fertile corpus to work on, various are the hurdles that may face translators dealing with this kind of writing: linguistic features, idiolectal language, metaphorical uses… This article highlights the most evident difficulties of translating poems of El Emir into English.
