The principd of high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) with autologous stem cell transplantation has been studied in both salvage and primary therapy setting in advanced and met.

Three large randomized Phase III trials have failed to show a benefit of HDCT over conventional-dose chemotherapy (CDCT) in the first-line treatment of patients with advanced GCT.

To date, the routine usage of HDCT has been reserved only for the salvage setting.
