Abstract EN

This study investigates the degree to which the features of aesthetic education appear in pictures in Islamic education books in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and state of Kuwait.

In order to achieve this aim, content analysis method is adopted.

It is used to analyze a unit in the Islamic education set books (2015-2016) for the second, fourth and sixth grades.

A list of the main features of aesthetic education is highlighted.

It includes six fields : knowledge representation and its diversity ; aesthetic tension ; emotional appreciation ; mental perception ; visual balance ; and moral vision.

The results of the content analysis of the pictures of the targeted books indicate a high percentage for the feature knowledge representation in the Islamic education books of both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, but a low percentage for the other features in both the Saudi Arabian and Kuwaiti books.

The results also indicate that there is a statistically significant difference at the level a α ≤ 0.05 between the main features of Aesthetic Education in pictures of the Islamic education books for the variable of the grade; in favour of the lower grade compared with the next level, in both Saudi and Kuwaiti books.

Results also indicate that the features of aesthetic education in the pictures of Islamic education books are higher in Saudi Arabia than in Kuwait ; the total frequencies of related pictures in Saudi books are 488, compared with 190 pictures in Kuwaiti books.

Considering these findings, the researcher recommends the need to take account of the features of aesthetic education in the pictures of school textbooks in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

In addition, a scientific methodology should be adopted when designing and producing school books pictures.

Furthermore, more studies should be undertaken on the content of the pictures in Islamic education school text books, and on the artistic criticism of the pictures of these books.
