Abstract EN

he aim of the current study is to identify the reality of applying governance at the University of Jordan based on academicians’ perspectives and to reveal the statistically significant differences according to the variables of the categorizing study.

These variables namely include gender, academic rank, years of experiences, and type of faculty.

To achieve these objectives, the researchers developed a questionnaire, which includes thirty-seven items distributed on four domains: accountability, transparency, participation in university decision-making, and organizational efficiency.

The descriptive analytical approach was adopted.

A sample of (184) male and female faculty members from the University of Jordan was randomly selected.

The results of the study showed that the reality of applying governance at the University of Jordan (from the study sample members’ point of view) was generally medium.

The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the degree of applying governance at the University of Jordan due to gender, academic rank, or years of experience.

However, there were statistically significant differences in the degree of applying governance at the University of Jordan due to the variable of faculty type in the field of organizational efficiency and in favor of humanities faculties.

The study concludes with a number of recommendations that could contribute to the application of governance at higher educational institutions, such as, enhancing trust between the university administration and faculty members through their participation in decision-making process and reforming and changing laws and regulations which are clear, strict, and enforceable, particularly with regard to transparency and accountability
