This paper is trying to solve practically some of the problematic issues of the historical method in studying pre Islamic poetry.
It discusses the main data about Umru'ul Qays in the writings of Ibn Qutaybah and Abul Farajil Asfahaniyy.
The main result of the discussion is that we have to consider these data as a production of "imaging" or "showing" process with a cultural and historical function, rather than they are false traditions.
