اعتمد علماء العربية القدامى في دراساتهم اللغوية على المنهج الوصفي الآني ذلك لأن أية دراسة علمية دقيقة لا بد أن تعتمد على جمع الظواهر الخاصة بالعلم المعين ثم دراستها بعد ملاحظتها و تجربتها و الخروج بنتائج أو قواعد تخص هذه الظواهر.
و هكذا بدأ العرب منذ الأجيال الأولى جمع المادة اللغوية من أصولها وأماكنها الصحيحة التي اعتقدوا أنها مناطق للغة العربية الفصيحة البعيدة عن اللحن و عن مناطق التأثر باللغات الأجنبية المحيطة بشبه الجزيرة العربية.
و بعدما رجع هؤلاء العلماء إلى حواضرهم درسوا هذه المادة اللغوية المتحصل عليها و صنفوها إلى فروع منها ما هو مختص بمتن اللغة (علم المعاجم ) و منها ما هو مختص بقواعد اللغة ( الصرف و النحو ) و منها ما يختص بالأساليب ( النقد و البلاغة ).
و إذا ما حاولنا إيجاد صلة بين هذا المنهج في الدرس اللغوي العربي المتقدم و الدرس البنوي الحديث.

لرأيناها واضحة المعالم من خلال الأسس التي قام عليها المنهج البنوي الذي برز إلى الوجود بدراسات فيردينان دي سوسير Ferdinand de Saussure المنشئ الحقيقي لهذا المنهج على لسان الدارسين المحدثين.

Ancient arab scholars based themselves in their linguistic studies on the descriptive and synchronic approach, given that every exact scientific study has to base itself on the collection of all the phenomena specific to this science in order to observe it, experiment it and study it to find results and draw up rules which concern these phenomena.
This is how the ancient arab scholars started, since the first generations, to collect the linguistic material from its sources and in the right places, which were considered as areas where the Arabic language was still pure and far from being altered by the misuse and the influence of the foreign languages of the countries which surround the Arabian Peninsula.
When they returned to their cities, learned Arab scholars had begun to study this linguistic material and to classify it in categories and specialized branches such as lexicology, syntax, grammar, stylistics and rhetoric.
And if we want to find a link between this method of the old arab linguistic school and the modern constructivist linguistics, we shall certainly find that this link is obvious, and it through foundations and bases on which constructivism was established thanks to the efforts of Ferdinand De Saussure, the founder of this approach according to modern scholars.

Les anciens savants arabes s'étaient basés dans leurs études linguistiques sur la méthode descriptive et synchronique, étant donné que chaque étude scientifique exacte doit se baser sur la collecte de tous les phénomènes spécifiques à cette science afin de l'observer, l'expérimenter et l'étudier et sortir avec des résultats et des règles qui concernent ces phénomènes.
C'est ainsi que les arabes avaient commencé, dès les premières générations, à collecter la matière linguistique depuis ses sources et dans les bons endroits, qui étaient considérés comme des zones ou la langue arabe était encore pure et loin d'être altéré par le mauvais usage ou l'influence des langues étrangères des pays qui entourent la péninsule arabique.
Dès leur retour à leurs villes, les savants arabes avaient commencé à étudier cette matière linguistique et la classer en catégories et branches spécialisés comme la lexicologie, la syntaxe, la grammaire, la stylistique et la rhétorique.
Et si on veut trouver un lien entre cette méthode de l'ancienne école linguistique arabe et la linguistique constructiviste moderne, on trouvera certainement que ce lien est évident, et ce à travers les fondements et les bases sur lesquelles le constructivisme était fondé suite aux études de Ferdinand De Saussure, le fondateur de cette méthode, selon les chercheurs.
