Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the reality of the guiding competencies in the guides of intermediate and secondary schools in Jeddah schools.

The study also aimed at identifying the differences between the mean scores of the study sample according to the variables (level of qualification - years of experience - training courses - the study stage).

The comparative descriptive approach was adopted.

The study scale was based on the Samir scale (2002).

The guideline competency scale prepared by the researcher (2019) consisted of thirty-four paragraphs, distributed over eight areas (preparation of the advisory program, management and guidance session, peaceful decision-making, professional relationship, understanding the social behavior of the guide, diagnosis, the use of behavioral and cognitive methods, Communication skills and nonverbal behavior),
 The study concluded that there are no statistically significant differences in the mean scores of the general competencies in the general education guides according to the qualification variable (diploma and guidance, bachelor, graduate studies), according to the variable of the educational stage (medium, secondary), and according to the variable.

Experience (less than three years, three to five years, more than five years) The study recommends supporting the study of the guiding competencies of the student counselor in all aspects, and attention to the dissemination of training, and work on the full-time mentor for its essential and essential work.
