الملخص EN

This study aimed at investigating the effect of flipping classroom strategy(FCS) on the achievement and retention of second-year students in short story .

The participants of the study were 62 purposefully chosen from Department of English / College of Education for Humanities/ University of Anbar and divided into two groups: 31 students for the experimental group and 31 students for the control group.

To achieve the aim of the study, the two groups were statistically equalized in some variables.

The experiment lasted five weeks during which the researchers themselves taught the experimental group adopted FCS while the control group received the ordinary method.

The instruments of the study were an achievement test and a post delayed test to measure students’ retention which was applied after two weeks.

Using t-test formula, the results showed that there was a significant difference in achievement test between the experimental group and the control group in favour of the experimental one.

Second, there was a significant difference in retention test between the experimental group and the control group in favour of the experimental one too.

These differences can be attributed to the use of FCS.
