This study compares Arabic and English Flap and Trill /r/.

The /r/ sound varies by accent.

One sort of trill occurs when the tongue tip approaches the alveolar -or dental /r/ and strikes the articulator numerous times very quickly.

The second sensation is uvular, the uvula hitting the tongue's dorsum.

Taps are a single vibration trill, the tongue is flicked against the top articulator like a ballistic missile, and the speaker has little control over its movement once it starts.

In Arabic, /r/ is usually a trill, but can also be a flap.

In modern standard Arabic dialects, the Arabic /r/ is more trilling.
