Students' anxiety level towards speaking in English from Iraqi teachers' point of view

English is the international language of communication and is widely used in Iraq.

thus, in order to uphold with the competitiveness, students should be well equipped with a solid ability to communicate in English.

however, students are found to show less participation in English classroom lessons.

for this reason, a study on the feeling of speaking anxiety has been experienced in communicative English classrooms for the students.

therefore, this study has been tackled to shed light on the main difficulties existing and causing speaking anxiety for the students in classroom from the teachers‟ point of view to and to identify the types of speaking activities that causes high anxiety level among the students.

to fulfill this aim, a sample of (100) teachers of English at the preparatory and intermediate schools in Diyala governorate are considered to be the subjects of this study.

a scaled questionnaire as an instrument of measurement is used in this study to be an investigatory tool.

the results of this study reveal that the hypothesis which reads Iraq students‟ anxiety level towards speaking in English is verified and accepted.

finally, some suggestions were discussed in order to help students reduce anxiety and become more confident to speak English in communicative English classrooms.
