The correct or problematic use of the collocations is not simply caused by the learners‟ searching for equivalent “candidates” across the linguistic systems.

Collocational production is a difficult task facing language learners Wrong collocations, like vocabulary errors, are due to many reasons.

In the present paper, there is an attempt to detect the problems in the use of collocations.

This is done by observing and pointing out the collocation errors in conversation classes performed by the third year students of the English department, College of Languages, Salahaddin University- Hawler.

The procedure was carried out during the academic year 2013- 2014.

One of the researchers is the teacher of conversation which helped in recording the errors during the classes.
