Abstract EN

The study aims to identify the most important causes inhibiting the students’ academic participation in the classes.

The researchers constructed a forty-items questionnaire which was applied on a sample of 237 male and female students of the Faculty of Education at The Islamic University of Gaza.

By using the percentages, T-test and Variance Analysis to identify the significance of the differences, the researchers could identify the most important causes.

The causes are arranged in order of importance as follows: the overcrowdedness of the classrooms, the traditionalism of the curricula and their lack of flexibility, lack of encouragement on the part of the teachers to their students, besides the differences in participation attributable to the accumulative average.

There were no significant differences attributable to the academic level.

These results were interpreted in the light of the theoretical framework and previous studies.
