Abstract EN

The aim of the current research is to identify the effectiveness of a teaching unit in ethical issues based on the intangible heritage to developing levels of depth of knowledge and reading engagement among first year secondary students.

To achieve the goal of the research, a depth of knowledge test and a reading-cognitive engagement scale were built, and this was applied to a sample of students in the first year of general secondary school at Al Shaarawy Secondary School for Girls in Kharga City in the New Valley.

They numbered fifty students, and the results of the research resulted in a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the pre and post applications of the test and the scale in favor of the post application of the experimental group.

As the research has taken the one-group experimental design, the differences between the results of the two applications before and after the experimental group in the depth of knowledge test were statistically significant at the level of significance (0.01).

And the cognitive reading engagement scale is a function at the level of significance (0.01) in favor of the dimensional application, and this indicates the effectiveness of the proposed unit in developing the levels of depth of knowledge and reading cognitive engagement for first year secondary students, The research put forward a set of recommendations, including: the need to pay attention to developing the levels of depth of knowledge among secondary school students.
