Listeria bacteria is found in soil, sewage, plants, and foodstuffs.
Listeria.
It is knownto be responsible for listeriosis, and rearly exists.
However, it can be fatal because ofits ability to transmit infection to foods and later to humans.
Though Listeria can beless epidemiological; however, the mortality rate of such infection might reach 25% compared with that of Salmonella in which is estimated to be less than 1% .
Moreover, Listeria is able to grow at temperatures between 2-43 C°.
Listeriosis is a seriousdisease as it causes inflammation of the meninges.
It further affects the newbornsbecause of its ability to penetrate the endothelial layer of the placenta.
Vegetablescan be contaminated from the soil, and animals can be also be carriers of such bacteria.
Listeria can also be found in raw meats, uncooked vegetables, unpasteurized milk, and in foods made from unpasteurized milk, and processed foods.
Here, one can addthat pasteurization and cooking are sufficient to kill listeria.
However, contaminationmay occur after the process of cooking or before packaging.
An example is foods andmeats production and factories, which produce foods that are ready for consumption, such as meats and sausages.
Accordingly, people need to follow the policies and procedures for sanitation to avoid the widespread liestiria pollution.
