The current research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a training program in improving expressive language skills of mentally handicapped children with Down syndrome.

The research sample consisted of (10) mentally handicapped children with Down syndrome who were enrolled in the Nama Center for Special Education in Zagazig City in Sharkia Governorate, their IQ ranged between (55-70) on the Stanford-Binet scale (the fifth edition), and their ages ranged between (8-10) years old, with mean age of (9.320) years, and a standard deviation of (0.835), they were divided equally into two groups: Experimental and control.

The research instruments were expressive language skills scale for mentally handicapped children with Down syndrome (prepared by the researcher), and a training program (prepared by the researcher).

Results revealed statistically significant differences between the mean ranks of the experimental and control groups' scores in the post-test on the expressive language skills scale in favor of the experimental group, and there were statistically significant differences between the mean ranks of the experimental group's scores in the pre and post tests on the expressive language skills scale in favor of the post test, and there were no statistically significant differences between the mean ranks of the experimental groups' scores in the post and follow up tests on the expressive language skills scale.

The results also found a strong effect of the training program used in the current research in improving expressive language skills for the experimental group, and the researcher recommended using the training program used in the current research for improving expressive language skills of children with Down syndrome.
