This research looks into the issue of recreational reading effects on teaching from the perspectives of pre-service teachers.
It answers the question whether pre-service teachers believe recreational reading habits and behaviors affect their teaching? To answer the question, the study utilized a quantitative methodology, using a survey instrument.
The participants of the study were graduate and undergraduates (seniors and juniors) students who were pursuing a teaching degree/license in both secondary and middle school education programs at a school of education in a large Midwestern university in the U.S.A.
The participants were of different gender and ethnic backgrounds.
It is in the findings of this study that there is a strong relationship between recreational reading and teaching improvement, teaching career, and relating to students.
Pre-service teachers believe that recreational reading leaves positive effects on teaching and it can be a good source for teaching improvement.
The study presents its significance towards teachers of K-12 education to see through the outstanding role recreational reading may have on their teaching practices on a daily basis.
