The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the guided discovery laboratory compared with investigative laboratory in achieving the scientific functions on students of science and engineering colleges at Jordan University of Science and Technology.

The first group was (27) students as a control group studied by investigative laboratory, and the second group (30) students was studied according to the guided discovery laboratory.

The researcher prepared an achievement test and laboratory reports and he applied them on the study sample.

The achievement test is a 25-paragraph multi-choice type according to the objectives of the study based on measuring student achievement and science functions (description, understanding and interpretation, prediction and control) The researcher prepared a guide manual based on the guided discovery method.

It contains five experiments in electricity: Ohm Law, Potentiometer, galvanometer, Whetstone Bridge, RC-Circuit.

Each experiment contains questions that guide the student to work and reach to the result and with limited guidance by his teacher.

The statistical significance (α = 0.05) was obtained in the study The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences between the two groups of students in achievement of scientific functions due to the method of teaching (the investigative laboratory, the guided discovery laboratory), the major due to the engineering students, and the interaction between them on the post-test and laboratory reports The study recommended that the method of guided discovery in various university education laboratories be deliberately aimed to improving the level of students' achievement and emphasizing the active role of students in educational process through the use of non-direct teaching methods, and conducting training courses for university laboratory teachers, Training them to apply and carrying out other studies similar to the various university laboratories, and other universities in Jordan.
